The comedian's son said his father passed away at the early hours of Thursday, April 2. According to him, his dad, who suffered heart failure, contracted COVID-19 while he was being treated in the hospital. He said his dad fought bravely for long before he passed.

McGinnis added that he and his family were unable to visit their dad in the hospital before his passing due to the pandemic. He said they spoke to him every day. The grieving son noted that his father would be missed and his family is proud of everything he achieved in his career while he was alive.
