Toy Story 4 Ends Hollywood Box Office Lull With A $47 Million Opening

According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Toy Story 4 is Pixar’s latest movie and it’s doing quite well at the box office. The Hollywood Reporter claims Toy Story 4, right now, is enjoying one of the biggest movie launches of all time for an animated movie.

Toy Story 4, created by Pixar and Disney, topped the first day of the weekend with a whopping $47.4 million from nearly 4600 theaters. Moreover, thus far, the film has received rave reviews from official industry critics.

Reportedly, if the movie continues on course, that means it’ll likely secure a $125 opening weekend. The outlet claims that would make it the third-best domestic opening for an animated movie of all time following other big movies like Finding Dory and The Incredibles 2.

As the title of this article suggested, industry executives, claimed that Hollywood needed a big win with Toy Story 4 because of the recent stumbles at the box office. Moreover, execs are hoping the film crushes the foreign box office as well.

Apparently, thus far, the movie has earned $38.3 million overseas across the Wednesday-Friday circuit. With John Cooley sitting in the director’s chair, the movie, on Rotten Tomatoes, has a whopping 98% review rating, and also an ‘A’ Cinemascore grade, meaning the film is loved by both audiences and critics alike.

Behind Toy Story 4 is the remake of the classic puppet horror film that arguably popularized the genre, Child’s Play, a remake of the 1988 film about a doll that terrorizes its victims. The R-rated horror movie grossed $6.1 million on Friday. Thus far, it has $15.2 million domestically.

Interestingly, the Star Wars alum, Mark Hamill, perhaps most famous for his role as Luke Skywalker, was in the movie. The movie has a decent rating on Rotten Tomatoes as well, coming in at 60%. However, the movie only got a C+ rating from moviegoers.

Disney’s Aladdin remake, starring Will Smith, is still sitting at number 3 in the fifth weekend of the movie’s box office haul. The Aladdin reboot, despite hitting it big at the box office, received mixed reviews.
